Chapter 93: Change Of Heart

The rescue of Jason was successful, they had managed to take him out of harm’s way but at the cost of Bella.

Bella had a change of heart, she knew that she didn’t have a choice but to turn herself in for the punishment that she deserved, Jason didn’t like the idea of leaving Bella behind but something told him this was the condition for their safety.

Sam was injured so their fighting power had been cut down drastically, Clementine wasn’t enough to combat these threats and with the zombies on a rampage, this was the best course of action.

"What is that?" Clementine asked him.

Jason dug into the bag, Rachel knew what it was and she was surprised that Bella had given him willingly.

"It’s a car key..." Rachel said before Jason confirmed what it was, Rachel was right.

"How did you know?" Clementine asked.

"Bella, she wanted to get the car so we could leave the camp," Rachel paused.

"I thought she wanted to betray us once again but I’m beginning to doubt it," Rachel concluded.

"I hate to say it but Bella is putting us first," Clementine said with a sigh.

She couldn’t believe that someone who had betrayed them so casually was turning a new leaf.

But there was no doubt, that they saw Bella’s state and to think it was self-inflicted meant one thing, Bella truly wanted this.

She did this to convince the man that she was truly ready to do anything for their safety and to think they were going to leave her so easily.

Clementine felt bad and this wasn’t just her, Rachel as well.

Sam was picking up on their hesitation to abandon and he couldn’t believe that they were even considering going back to save her.

"Women, this is what happens when you let your emotions do the talking... You’re all so fucking stupid, Bella is getting exactly what she deserves... We’re only in this situation because of her in the first place or have you all forgotten?" Sam reminded them that they were being stupid.

This was delusion at its finest and Sam wanted to bring them back to reality.

He didn’t have the strength to stop them but Sam wasn’t going to partake in whatever it was that they wanted to do.

"Sam..." Clementine called out.

"Clementine, I don’t remember you being this stupid..." Sam said.

"Sam, stop it..." Clementine said and Sam removed his arm from around her.

"You have become pathetic, there is no way you would have survived on the battlefield. I don’t recognize this bitc-!" Sam was interrupted as a slap landed on his cheek.

"YOU DO NOT SPEAK TO ME LIKE THAT SAM!" Clementine warned.

Sam chuckled, to think the day would come when Clementine would put her hands on him.

Sam took out his gun without hesitation and pointed it right at Clementine.

"What are you doing!?" Rachel asked; this was a bit too extreme for a slap.

Clementine pressed her head against his gun.

"I’m done listening to you Sam, do it and get it over with," Clementine said.

Sam had one of the most menacing smiles known to man on his face.

"As you wish," Sam pulled the trigger but nothing came out of the gun.

"Sam now isn’t the time to be playing games!" Jason interjected.

"Hahaha! You’re right," Sam laughed but this laugh sounded so ingenuine, at least he put the gun away this time.

Clementine could feel a cold bead of sweat forming on her forehead.

"He didn’t know the gun was empty..." Clementine thought to herself, she has spent enough time with Sam to know that he doesn’t bluff when he pulls the trigger.

He only did so when he intended to take a life and to think that Sam didn’t hesitate sent a chill down Clementine’s spine.

She realized that Sam wouldn’t think twice about taking her own life if it came to it.

Clementine was calling his bluff, she didn’t want to die.

"I will let you guys play hero but what we do with her after you rescue her would be up to me," Sam said and they knew that Bella would be better off with them than Sam.

Sam was proving to be difficult but even with this, everyone understood where he was coming from. Not everyone was as forgiving as them and even with that, he was more decisive than the rest.

Sam was part of the reason that they had lived this long but this didn’t mean he was always right.

Sam was an extremist when it came to these things and they couldn’t let him carry out his ideals even though this world was perfect for such.

"We have to go back, you know that right?" Clementine said.

Jason and Rachel nodded but the look of disgust on Sam’s face told them everything they needed to know about where Sam stood.

But Sam could see the bigger picture, they had a car because of Bella and none of them would be their problem anymore once they got to base.

This was temporary so he planned to let Clementine have her little fun in the meantime because once they leave, they leave these people behind.

"You know what? I agree with you all," Sam said out of the blue and this naturally made everyone suspicious, there was no way that Sam had a change of heart that quickly.

But they could work with that, Clementine and Rachel knew that they were the ones who could go back to rescue Bella considering that the men were injured.

Jason had the car key and he could at least move so all he needed to know was the location.

Rachel gave him the location of the car before leaving.

Bella stopped shooting the moment she realized that they had managed to slip through.

She had no intention of killing Ren because this would make things a lot worse.

The man with the numerical value, I, stepped forward because he knew that Ren planned to kill Bella.

Bella couldn’t be killed, that would be too merciful a fate for her.

She needed to be made a scapegoat out of and he intended to do everything he told the people she went through such trouble to save.

Bella soon felt a hand on her shoulder and her body tensed up.

It was strange but no one knew the actual name of this man, not even those that ranked with him but the fact that an outsider killed Lorenzo meant one thing.

It meant that the faction under Lorenzo could now swear their loyalty to him because Bella was the one who would take the fall for his death.

The one obstacle that prevented him from cementing his power, he was going to announce that Lorenzo was dead and Bella was the culprit.

"Are you ready Bella?" The man asked, and Bella gulped but she had no choice in the matter.

"I am," Bella responded.

Ren kissed his teeth because he wanted to make Bella bleed, she interrupted him from killing these people but he also knew that something was scarier than anything.

That was making their leader mad but it didn’t mean he had any intentions of letting them get away.

"Allison, follow them," Ren whispered, Allison raised a brow because why did he think he had the right to order her but she also knew this was an opportunity to gain his favour.

She knew she could go far if someone who was in the top 5 favoured her, it would make it easy for her to gain influence but no one knew what made Ren tick.

It wasn’t pussy because he rarely went out of his way to do things that the others went head over heels for.

Ren was a strange man, he liked blood and that was the one thing that seemed to get him off.

Allison nodded, and she snuck out of the gate, Unfortunately for Sam and Jason, the women who could have protected them weren’t present.

They had returned to save Bella leaving them as prey but it was hard to know what Sam was capable of in his current state, this much remained to be seen.

But he had run out of bullets so he couldn’t rely on his gun to get him out of this and with Jason’s shitty accuracy unless it was from close range so this meant that Allison had the upper hand should she encounter them.

Allison went out of the camp and saw the backs of the two men, they seemed to be going around the fence as opposed to away from it.

Something told Allison that she should follow them as opposed to gunning them down and she did just that.

Clementine and Rachel had entered but they were quiet, they established sight of Bella but they couldn’t do anything now.

Clementine knew the chances of them saving Bella was slim but they owed it to her.

Maybe people do change, she was slowly realizing that Jason might be right after all.

Bella was deserving of this second chance and she was eager to give it to her.
