Chapter 220: Jason’s Potential
Chapter 220: Jason’s Potential
Jason had levelled up and he was feeling wonderful, everything that was depleted was replenished, including his Nexus skill.
He couldn’t believe the amount of power coursing through his veins, the man was surprised that Jason consumed it on the spot.
This shouldn’t be possible because the possibility of rejection existed and this would affect the stability of his fragment, causing him to turn into a fully evolved undead.
Not all evolved zombies were zombies that consumed the fragment after their death but some were humans that the fragment rejected.
This knowledge was great but Jason was about to show him the difference between them.
He glanced over at his shoulder and he noticed that his ears were a lot sharper.
There was no heartbeat coming from the person before him, this was another corpse.
[[Rebooting...]]
Chronos was rebooting because the fragment didn’t just power Jason up, it powered it up too.
Jason’s face was a lot duller and the life in his eyes had drained somewhat, he looked over at Ana and got his answer.
"You’re a corpse..." Jason muttered, he couldn’t hear her heartbeat but his eyes could scan the environment and reveal details he would have otherwise missed.
"There is something strange..." Jason noted.
[[Reboot complete!]]
[[Skill available for upgrade!]]
[[The Nexus available for upgrade!]]
[[Upgrade? Y/N?]]
Chronos informed Jason while Jason was still trying to comprehend what just happened.
His stats were no longer showing either, which was strange considering he needed to upgrade them as he saw fit. But first things first, he gave Chronos the go-ahead to upgrade The Nexus.
"Chronos, why can’t I see my stats?" Jason questioned with a raised brow.
[[I am afraid Nexus has deemed the usage of stats irrelevant, you no longer need it. This is the next step in your evolution.]]
Chronos informed him but the way it was speaking, it sounded like Nexus was another artificial intelligence.
The person before him pointed a gun at Jason and pulled the trigger but Jason didn’t even attempt to dodge the bullet.
It hit him right in the chest but the bullet didn’t pierce through his skin, it bounced off it despite leaving a mark.
"What?" Jason was shocked by this because this shouldn’t be happening even if he did upgrade but Jason was beginning to understand that the powers of the fragments he had consumed before now were finally becoming accessible to him.
[[The durability of your body has increased beyond the average human]]
Chronos informed Jason, however, that the gun the enemy had used was not known for the piercing capabilities of the bullets as it could be said that the result would have been a lot different if the gun had a stronger ejection speed.
"You’re just like me," The person muttered but Jason shook his head, he didn’t know if his durability was going to be a constant thing but something told him it was a temporary buff.
"I’m nothing like you," Jason responded, walking to Glenn who didn’t know what to think.
This wasn’t the Jason he knew but Jason knew he had to ensure his safety.
"Glenn, I need to know what happened to Carl," Jason requested, he knew that Glenn was in dire condition but he was breathing.
That was enough for him and Glenn managed to crack a weak smile while giving Jason a thumbs up.
"H-He got away," Glenn reassured Jason and he could tell by the relief on Jason’s face that this was one of the things troubling him.
"Ana, take Glenn and make sure he is alright," Jason commanded her, he could feel the other two fragments getting closer.
This was going to escalate into a full-scale battle and he didn’t want Glenn to be caught in the crossfire.
"You think you can take us all on just because you consumed the fragment?" The man asked but Jason didn’t give him a response.
"Chronos, show me the skills available," Jason chose to give his attention to Chronos.
[[I’m afraid you lack the necessary requirements to use them]]
Chronos responded but Jason wondered what requirement that could be.
He was already levelled up even though the usage of statistics had become obsolete, he knew this was just about his physical attributes.
It wouldn’t affect stamina, MP, HP and the rest of the lot but this was perfect.
It meant that Jason had evolved past his previous state.
"Show me my current EXP," Jason requested and Chronos did just that.
[[EXP: 690]]
Jason didn’t know when it got so high but he noticed that the notification for this had been toggled off, something he didn’t remember doing.
"Toggle EXP notification back on," Jason commanded and Chronos did just that.
It was amazing that Jason was so calm despite being outnumbered but he wanted to see his profile before the battle commenced.

It has been ages since Jason did this but he had to to understand the state he was in.
With his new stats, he could not only keep Nexus on for longer, but he could fight for a longer duration. Ten minutes was more than enough for him to dispose of these enemies.
Ana took Glenn in and this left Jason outside alone but the closer the zombie got, the more uneasy he felt.
They were stronger than the one he had just fought and way stronger than the one currently standing in front of him.
There was no telling which was the real body but Jason knew it wouldn’t matter as long as he killed them all.
It was going to be a bloodbath.
-
Carl had sprained his ankle but he was alright, he was alive because of Glenn or he was sure that he wouldn’t have made it through.
Jason was in trouble too but Carl had a job to do, he needed to figure out a way to get them all out of there.
He went back up and noticed that they had gone but Glenn’s body wasn’t there either hence it was safe to assume that he was the one taken as the leverage
This was the only scenario that both of them came out of this alive.
Carl wasn’t going to stay idle and wait for his turn to die, he knew the SUV was still working even though he had little experience in driving.
Carl made his way back to that location, taking care of a few zombies that were wandering but these were the typical zombies.
He disposed of them with minimum difficulty but Carl was surprised that they hadn’t sabotaged or taken the car, it was in perfect working condition.
They were yet to even complete their mission yet they found themselves a man down, possibly two men down with the state Glenn was in.
He wouldn’t be of much use anyway but he hoped that Glenn was alive.
Carl entered the car and luckily, the keys were left inside.
This was Dimitris thinking quickly because anything could happen to him so if the key was on him when that happened, it would put everyone else at risk.
Of course, it wasn’t in the ignition but on the floor, barely hidden by the mat.
Carl tried to start the car but there was no luck on the first try, he knew he had to be careful or he could kill the engine.
If there was a God, now was the time to prove himself and he gave it one more go and to his relief, the car started.
Carl had a mission and that was to be the getaway whenever they needed but what was most fortunate was the fact that the enemies had left a trail behind.
But was this trail leading right to them or was it a trap they had set up for Carl?
That was to be seen.
