Chapter 177: When Will It End!?
Chapter 177: When Will It End!?
Clementine heard the series of gunshots in the distance, she didn’t like the sound of it and knew that Jason had to wake up so they could sort themselves out.
Clementine thought about putting him on her back because of his worth.
He would not only slow her down but tire her out as well, there was no telling what this would do to her considering she might have to defend herself.
Clementine was aware of the dangers that awaited her and wanted to be well-equipped to handle them.
"Jason, you have to wake up," She called out but Jason wasn’t responding.
He was trapped in a world of his own and there was a dream that his subconscious had thrown him in.
-
"Huh, where am I?" Jason muttered, opening his eyes but there were no zombies and no Clementine.
He was in a house that he recognized, this was the home he grew up in.
Jason looked around, trying to comprehend what was going on.
[[Jason?]] A voice called out and to his surprise, it was Chronos.
"Chronos? Do you still exist?" Jason questioned, he noticed that Chronos’ features were less defined than the last time they met.
[[I am a system, I will always exist.]]
Chronos responded and Jason couldn’t lie, navigating the world without Chronos’ guidance was proving to be difficult even though Chronos was sneaky.
All he did worked in Jason’s favor but why did Chronos bring him here?
It had recreated his home for sentimental purposes but Jason wasn’t feeling the way Chronos hoped he would.
"Damn, that’s a bummer. Am I in another near-death situation?" Jason asked but Chronos wasn’t about to entertain his sarcasm.
[[Fortunately no, you are unconscious after being knocked out by Clementine.]]
Chronos informed him and Jason raised a brow, there was no way that this happened.
There was no way in hell he would attack Clementine, this was something that just couldn’t happen but Chronos has also never lied to him.
Jason held onto this piece of information but how did that bring him here?
This wasn’t the first time he was unconscious so what made this time any different?
"Why am I seeing you?" Jason questioned, sitting up from his bed.
[[I am a part of your mind, you might have absorbed my essence but not my primary function but it seems you don’t have the necessary ability to harness my full power]]
Chronos said and Jason was curious about what it was that it was talking about.
"Harness your full power? There’s more?" Jason question.
[[Oh yes Jason, there is so much more but if you try to tap into it now, your body will not be able to handle it]]
Chronos warned and Jason was intrigued by this piece of information but how was he going to level up now that Chronos was no longer there to give him quests?
Jason hadn’t received any quest or mission so he was curious what would happen to that function. He didn’t mind this as it allowed him to act a lot more freely.
He knew now wasn’t the time to ask something this irrelevant as he needed to focus on waking up, he didn’t know what Clementine was dealing with.
Jason needed to get back out there as soon as possible and realized that the Berserker skill might be a lot more dangerous than he initially thought.
"How could I attack Clementine?" Jason muttered in disbelief, he couldn’t believe that something like that could happen in the first place considering the relationship they shared.
Clementine tried her best to save him yet he repaid her kindness by attacking her.
[[The Berserker Mode robs you of your consciousness. I was there to keep it in check and prevent it from attacking your friends but with my absence, it cannot recognize friends from foes]]
Jason knew what Chronos was suggesting even though the system wasn’t saying it directly.
"I see..." Jason responded but his thought process was going against him.
"Wake me up Chronos," Jason instructed it but Chronos didn’t have the power to do so.
[[I don’t have the power anymore to do that I am afraid]]
Chronos responded and Jason knew that there was something that it could do.
This was it stalling and Chronos had no time to stall even though he was slightly impressed that Clementine could handle him in that state.
He saw what he did to the Specter so this skill was anything but friendly but if there was anyone that could deal with him, it had to be Clementine.
"Are you trying to trick me, Chronos?" Jason had to ask but Chronos shook its head.
[[You have to make a decision, something dangerous is head this way]]
Chronos warned and Jason knew he had a decision to make, he couldn’t trust Chronos but he also couldn’t put Clementine in more danger.
"What do you need, Chronos?" Jason asked even though he was skeptical.
[[I need to absorb some of the fragment’s essence in you, enough to give me primary function]]
Chronos said and Jason knew that this might be Chronos trying to one up again but Chronos knew that Jason wasn’t someone to mess with.
Jason hoped he had cemented his authority over his system and the repercussions of crossing him even though Jason didn’t know how he absorbed Chronos’ essence.
It was an action that he had no control over but he wasn’t about to let Chronos do that.
Chronos had lost the ability to know everything that Jason was thinking but Jason worried that this might change as soon as he regained his essence.
"Do it..." Jason commanded it and Chronos was pleased with this response as it began the absorption process with immediate effect.
Jason was somewhat relieved that he had Chronos to assist him with this because he knew that he would be in deep shit right now if Chronos couldn’t wake him up.
[[Absorption 10%!]]
[[Absorption 25%!]]
[[Absorption 35%!]]
[[Absorption 60%!]]
[[Absorption 10%!]]
[[Absorption 98%!]]
[[Absorption 10%!]]
[[Absorption complete!]]
"See you soon, Chronos," Jason blurted out and the moment he said this, his eyes shot open.
Chronos did have the ability to wake him up.
-
"Jason! Are you okay?" Clementine asked him, Jason noticed that his hands were tied but who could blame her considering he attacked her according to Chronos.
He didn’t believe it but the state he found himself in confirmed it.
"Hey you, is now really the time to be kinky?" Jason questioned with an awkward smile.
"I was so worried!" Clementine said as she quickly rushed to untie him.
Jason could feel the throbbing headache in his head, there was no doubt that this was the point of impact.
"I’m fine," Jason responded. He looked around to see what happened to the zombie that he was fighting.
Jason couldn’t even recognize the state it was in, the zombie not only had its head removed but smashed like it was mashed potatoes.
The smell made him feel like throwing up but he had to keep his composure.
He remembered what Chronos had told him before waking up and that was the presence of a threat.
"We need to leave Clementine," Jason warned as he jumped to his feet.
"What’s gotten into you, did I hit your head too hard?" Clementine questioned.
"Clementine, get up. I’m not fucking around," Jason reiterated as he got the weapon he had dropped.
He knew that Chronos might have had his information wrong but then it finally happened, the beeping on his map to alert him of a fragment that was around.
Jason had to confirm, this meant that whatever it was, it had only come into range of his map even though it would disappear if he took a step back.
"That can’t be it," Jason said, that zombie was still some distance away.
Jason knew this was the only reason why he even woke up, it was to protect Clementine.
But there had to be a glitch because Jason saw another fragment pop up on his map and it was heading right towards them. This was the first time that two evolved zombies were in a single location and Jason prayed there weren’t more lurking around.
He already used a skill that takes up quite the stamina and knew he couldn’t spam the others without repercussion should it come to it as his stamina needed to be managed.
With the speed at which it travelled, there was no way in hell this was a normal zombie, especially a human. This had to be something else and whatever it was, it was gaining fast.
Clementine noticed he was looking in a direction and realized that there might be something that Jaosn was seeing.
Clementine took it seriously and sprung to her feet with weapon in hand but Jason knew he would have time to explain the current situation and gave Clementine a command.
He knew better than anyone what was coming and it took a few seconds before the beast was here but Clementine was nowhere to be seen.
It was just Jason, standing in front of an evolved gorilla, gorillas were generally stronger than humans and the fact that it somehow managed to find the fragment was terrible news.
"Fuck me..." Jason blurted out.
