Chapter 130: Current Affairs
Chapter 130: Current Affairs
The rain subsided but it was well into the evening at this point, Jason and Clementine left Glenn’s house. Glenn allowed Clementine to keep the clothes he gave her considering hers weren’t dry yet.
The weather was cold but Jason didn’t care, he wore his clothes like that because there was no way that things could get any worse.
Jason didn’t know what to say to Clementine neither did she because she just learned a whole lot about Jason in a day.
Information she didn’t even know existed and Clementine even suggested a harem but Jason knew that if she picked up on his interest in Rachel then the other would have as well.
"Should I escort you home?" Jason asked and Clementine giggled.
"Between you and I, you’re the one that needs protection Jason," Clementine reminded him that she might be a lady but she was far from defenceless.
"Geez, I was just trying to be a gentleman," Jason rolled his eyes.
Jason didn’t know how he would break things down to her and he found himself overthinking it.
"You don’t need to be one with me, I’m not your woman and this advice doesn’t just mean me. I mean Debra..." Clementine said and Jason was puzzled by this response.
He knew he had to be careful regarding how he approached things but Jason had plans for Debra because her lie aided his status in some form or another.
This meant that the deceit had benefits, and Jason wasn’t interested in continuing the conversation.
They reached the interjection where they had to go their separate ways.
"Are we going to talk about today?" Jason questioned but Clementine raised her brow in confusion.
"What happened today?" Clementine said and Jason chuckled because he realized what she was doing. Clementine planned to act like this never happened in the first place.
"You’re right, I suddenly can’t seem to remember either," Jason responded with a smile.
They said their farewells and Jason went back to his house.
Jason knew he would crash the moment he got home, his body needed the rest because these past few days have been rather hectic.
Jason arrived at his steps a few minutes later and he saw someone standing outside his house, this person was clearly waiting on him.
"Debra?" Jason questioned, he could only see her back but by the way it looked, he could discern who it was.
"Hey Jason, I think I need to explain myself," Debra got right to the point, she knew she had fucked up but it looked like she was ready to make amends.
"Talk? We’re good, aren’t we?" Jason questioned, he was trying to play dumb because he didn’t want to stir up any trouble.
Debra knew he was full of shit, she wasn’t buying it and had every intention of explaining herself.
She knew that Jason could have easily thrown her under the bus and made her out to be a liar even though the chances of him being believed were low.
It was something that would raise doubts as with every rumor, some believe it.
"I know you know, Jason. Can we talk... Please?" Debra said to which Jason sighed, he couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
"Fine, why did you try to fuck me over?" Jason asked bluntly, he had no plans of letting her into his home, this was why he opted to have the conversation outside.
"I did it for the sake of the community. You aren’t the first, I do with all the recruits as a test to see if they were made for it..." Debra said but Jason wasn’t buying any of this.
"Is that so?" Jason’s tone gave away his disbelief.
"That is so and most of them end up changing their roles because they can’t stomach it. Those that did were..." Debra said, pausing but since Jason had stepped outside the walls.
He knew exactly what it was that she was talking about, it was the zombies.
"Jesus Christ Debra... How heartless are you?" Jason asked because she showed no remorse.
"As heartless as I need to be to protect everyone within these walls. I know what I did was wrong but I would be lying if I said I wouldn’t do it all over again as they would have died sooner or later. This way we can preserve resources before that happens. It was hard to believe someone like you who got it done," Debra said.
Jason simply smiled, he knew this conversation was pointless because as long as she felt no remorse then there was no point in this conversation.
She believed she was in the right and nothing was changing that perspective.
"I understand Debra and we’re cool," Jason reassured but Debra expected more of a negative response than a positive.
Jason walked past her and Debra found herself wondering what was going through his mind.
She looked over her shoulder and noticed that Jason was done with the conversation altogether.
"Are you sure it’s really alright?" Debra questioned him.
"Absolutely!" Jason responded to her question with a thumbs up.
Debra heaved a loud sigh of relief, she didn’t know that the conversation could take such a positive turn.
"Hey Debra..." Jason said and Debra’s face lightened up the moment she heard him call her name.
"Yeah?" Debra responded with a smile on her face.
"If you screw with me again, I will ruin your life..." Jason threatened her, this was the first time he had threatened anyone.
"Goodnight," Jason concluded with one of the fakest smiles known to man but Debra felt a chill down her spine because something told her this wasn’t a bluff.

Sam was stuck between life and death, he had no energy to do anything.
Sam knew he needed to find a way to his destination as he didn’t know if this was the only zombie of this calibre.
He entertained the possibility of others because just one wasn’t nearly enough to bring down the base, they clearly overwhelmed the military base and Sam was cautious.
Sam began to crawl but he had to do so under the zombie he had just killed to act as some sort of cloak on.
The weight made it difficult for him to move but this was the only way, Sam noticed he was leaving a trail of blood.
The zombies got to their knees and began biting the floor at the smell of the blood.
Sam noticed and this was a reminder as to how stupid zombies were.
But he noticed something, they were using the trail of blood to get right at him.
They were crawling on the floor and towards Sam like a beacon.
Sam tried to increase his pace but this didn’t do much, he couldn’t move faster than he already was.
Sam had to make a run for it or these zombies would find a way to reach him.
He couldn’t risk this but Sam noticed something that changed his mind because the zombies around stopped moving the moment they got close to the one on top of him.
Sam was unaware of the existence of fragments and if zombies craved it like they did brains, then there was no reason for them for such a reaction.
This could have worked but Sma didn’t have the strength to go through with it, his body would give out.
Sam chuckled before pushing the zombie off him and using the last ounce of his strength to get to his feet.
Sam took a deep breath and began to walk towards the car but he was wobbly, it was almost like his body would give in at any moment.
Sam’s vision was blurry and his head felt lightheaded but his knees didn’t buckle.
"This isn’t where I will die!" Sam strengthened his resolve.
He looked over his shoulder and saw the zombies coming towards him but despite all of this, Sam wasn’t scared.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have a wide grin on his face, Sam prepared himself for the worst because as far as he was concerned, he died the night before.
"Fucking hell man..." Sam said, stumbling to his knees; he felt the cold hand of the dead grab his neck and in no time, he was surrounded.
Sam tried to fight them off but there was no luck, the zombies had pinned him down and were ready to sink their teeth into his flesh.
Sam accepted his fate but he didn’t want to return as one of these abominations but before his thoughts could delve deeper, gunshots echoed and the zombies began falling like flies.
"The base has been compromised! Spread out and check for survivors!" A man screamed at the top of his lungs, Sam’s were all but closed at this point.
"Stay wit’ me son!" A voice echoed but Sam’s body was succumbing to his injuries.
On the verge of death, would Sam not survive this ordeal or will it only make him stronger?
Unfortunately for Sam, the former seemed more likely.
