Chapter 134: That Warm Hug
Chapter 134: That Warm Hug
Raiden sprinted across the jungle with full force. He didn’t even look back to see if anyone was following him. He only had one thought in his mind.
’Oh shit!! I got detected. I must reach Isadora before they capture me!!’
Raiden had broken through the perimeter without fighting. But it cost him as the soldiers had detected his presence, and he wasn’t sure what would happen next.
He didn’t want to fight them, so he ran away like the wind.
"Chiirpp!!!"
Just as he was running away, a big shadow fell over his head, covering the entire jungle in the area around him. He looked up to see a massive Terra Beast flying overhead. It was the same Terra Beast that gave him a feeling of relief and also the one that was responsible for his nightmares.
"Chiirpp!!!"
The massive figure in the sky vanished, and a blur fell down from the sky before landing directly in front of him.
Bang!!
"You brat, where did you vanish in the jungle? Do you know how worried I was?! You vanished just like that! No way, you’ve got to compensate me somehow!!"
A familiar teasing voice called out in front of Raiden, making him a little angry.
’Compensation? She wants compensation?! For what exactly? I was the one who went missing in the jungle and was struggling on the edge of life and death. What did she do?! I’ll—’
Before Raiden could think about anything further, he found himself pulled by a strong pair of arms and a feeling of softness around his face.
"Welcome back, boy. You can rest now, I’ll take care of everything else." Isadora hugged him tightly as Raiden struggled to breathe in her massive chest.
She didn’t let him go, however, as she felt his body loosen up and his tension melt away with a single hug.
She looked at him from top to bottom, and it clearly showed the signs of the adversities he had endured.
His face was covered in dirt. His hair was chopped all over the place. His body was littered with nothing but small and large scars. There wasn’t even a single place left that was scar-free. There were big calluses on his hands, and his feet were bare, full of cuts.
The biggest sign, though, was his eyes, which were filled with constant vigilance and the look people had when they came back from the war. As someone who endured the same, she knew how he felt.
After struggling for a few seconds, Raiden gave up and just settled into the warm embrace. He felt very much at peace.
"Let’s go back. We’ll get you all patched up and some rest as well."
--------------------------------------
After coming back to the base, Raiden found himself resting in some kind of hospital room as eleven doctors did all kinds of tests on him and Neva and Woolie, while Isadora stood a few feet away, looking over everything.
"You know I’m mostly fine. There is no need for so many doctors. Just help me heal my right hand a little, okay?" Raiden called out in helplessness as four male doctors touched him all over his body.
"Fine?! You call this a fine boy?" A male doctor who was examining him got really angry after hearing his words as he tapped against his right arm with a little force.
"Ouch!!"
"You have multiple injuries on your body. The bones in your feet have gotten a little twisted, and your hand is almost gone!! You came back at the right time. If you had come back any later, you would have lost your hand for good. So now just obediently lie down, and let us do our work."
Raiden shut his mouth after hearing such words as he lay back down and let the doctors work their magic.
They used some kind of medicine to apply all over his body except for the bits covered by his underwear, and put a big plaster on his right hand and left leg, warning him against moving it before leaving.
"Don’t even think of going out for the next few days. Just stay here. We have called the Holy Healer from the city. She will take a day or two to arrive. Until then, just stay here."
With the final instructions, all the doctors left the room, leaving Raiden alone with Isadora.
"They have done a complete body scan of both your Terrans. Neva is completely fine, just a little mentally exhausted, while Woolie has fallen into a deep sleep; he should wake up very soon. His brain shows signs of activity, though, so he should be waking up anytime now." Isadora spoke as she moved to his bedside, sitting there casually as she peeled an apple.
"Really?? Woolie is going to be okay, right??" Raiden let out a big sigh of relief as he saw both of them on the nearby bed, having fallen asleep against each other.
"Yes. But now let’s talk about who attacked you." The knife danced in her hand as she quickly peeled the apple skin in one go without breaking it.
"You have found out who?! It’s that bastard Bai Zang, isn’t it?!" Raiden quickly sat up straight as he looked at her with anger on his face.
"Well, yes and no." Isadora cut the apple into six equal pieces before putting them all on a plate.
"What do you mean??"
"There are actually two different groups of people who targeted you together." After finishing peeling the apple, Isadora made no effort to give them to Raiden. Instead, she just sat there, enjoying them herself, making Raiden speechless.
"The day you went missing, I followed you and found a Platinum Battle Master who was coming after you. From his mouth, I found that someone from the underworld is targeting you. He wasn’t willing to speak very frankly, so I had to use some ’other means’ to make him talk. We already rooted out over a hundred people from the base and sent them to the guillotines here. I tried to follow the lead or trail back to the city, but it was broken. Whoever it was, they have some powerful connections in the underworld and have gone deep into hiding after this."
Isadora paused for a moment to pick another piece of apple from her plate.
"As for Bai Zang, he has gone missing. Now say Ahh~"
