Chapter 302: Should I Acknowledge My Biological Parents?
Chapter 302: Should I Acknowledge My Biological Parents?
Maxim Sinclair’s fingers gently tapped on the table.
The situation seemed a bit tricky. Summer Lowell appeared to be very concerned about these biological parents who had come looking for her.
If he didn’t tell her the truth... would it cause her to feel resistant?
Maxim recalled the image he had in Summer’s mind, and let out a helpless bitter laugh.
She definitely wouldn’t believe it.
"What’s funny?" Summer watched Maxim laugh for no reason, "And you seem in a bad mood. I found my biological parents; aren’t you happy for me?"
"I’m happy for you, that’s why I’m laughing," Maxim put aside the bitter smile and became somewhat serious, "Can you get a hair sample from that couple? In my opinion, it’s better to do a DNA test to avoid being overly joyous without reason."
"Being so cautious... would it seem inappropriate? They seem to have rushed back from abroad specifically for me. My suspicion might hurt their feelings, right?"
Summer was hesitant. To her, she indeed looked quite similar to that couple.
Maxim looked at her disapprovingly, "Isn’t it good to be cautious about such big matters?"
"I am cautious. Didn’t I hand over the documents they gave me to you so you can verify them?" Summer said, staring straight at Maxim, "You seem a bit hesitant. What’s going on? What are you hiding?"
"I’m not hiding anything, just kindly offering advice. If you don’t want to listen, then forget it."
Maxim stood up and walked upstairs, "I have an online meeting later. If there’s nothing important, don’t disturb me. About your biological parents, if you have any questions, just go to the attic and find Matthew. He will help you investigate without going through me."
Summer tilted her head, watching Maxim’s back, unable to stop herself from wondering, "What’s gotten into him now? Why does his attitude seem so strange?"
The long-lost biological parents, whom she had been thinking about for years, finally came to visit, and Summer was too excited to sit still.
At dinner, she unusually pulled Maxim into a conversation about the development of the jewelry design industry and even discussed the differences between domestic and international markets with him, and their future prospects.
Maxim understood why Summer was so happy, but worried about how to tell her the truth while hiding his distraction, so she wouldn’t find anything amiss and overthink it.
Early the next morning, when Maxim woke up, he found the side of the bed empty, and upon inquiry downstairs, he learned from the housekeeper that Summer had driven off early in the morning.
Apparently, she had work to get to and went to the studio early.
Maxim stood still in silence for a while, then instructed the housekeeper to call Section Chief Grant and the others down from the attic to have breakfast together.
They used to eat downstairs together, but later moved to the attic to respect Summer’s mood.
Section Chief Grant walked down last, holding a tablet, and sat beside Maxim, "President Sinclair, I found out. The Collinses’ son was trapped by Justin Huxley in Rivenland and ended up in jail. Now, the couple urgently need a large compensation and an official letter of forgiveness from the victim. Both these things can be provided by Justin Huxley, which is why they returned to the country to recognize their kin."
"Just as I suspected, Justin put a lot of effort into this."
Previously, to keep Summer from contacting her biological parents, Maxim had deliberately arranged to have the relevant information erased once he found her parents’ tracks.
This was to prevent Summer from using Justin Huxley’s influence to find her parents.
Unexpectedly, after going round and round, Maxim no longer intended to use this to threaten Summer, but Justin used this tactic instead.
If he laid everything out in the open, what would Summer’s reaction be?
...
Although Summer said she was going back to the studio to catch up on drafts, once she arrived, she just sat idly at her desk until nine o’clock in the morning when the secretary came in to report work, bringing her back to her senses.
"President Lowell, what’s wrong? You don’t look well, are you feeling unwell? If so, maybe you should rest for a while."
Summer shook her head, "I’m fine, bring me those design drafts I instructed yesterday. I want to see which parts need changes."
The secretary nodded and brought the design drafts as requested. After hurriedly flipping through them, Summer suddenly closed the drafts, "Perhaps I should follow Maxim Sinclair’s advice and get their hair for a DNA test, just to be safe."
No sooner said than done, Summer picked up the phone and dialed Vivian Sullivan, "Are you free today?"
Still lounging in bed on a rare day off, Vivian yawned and kicked the person tussling for the blanket off the bed, "I’m free. I’m on a day off today, why, do you want me to come see you?"
"That would be great. If you’re not busy, come see me. I’ll treat you to lunch and I want to discuss something important to me, I’m unsure about it and feeling very complex. I really want someone to talk to."
"Alright, I’ll be there in an hour," Vivian threw back the covers, grabbed a robe, wrapped it around herself, looked at Charles Jenson, who had just climbed up from the floor, "The sun’s up, you may leave now."
Charles picked up his clothes from the floor, put them on piece by piece, then leaned against the bathroom doorframe, speaking to Vivian who was showering inside, "Are you going to see Mrs. Sinclair?"
"Speak plainly, no need to beat around the bush," Vivian glanced at him, "Do you want to go with me?"
"I’d like to, but with your attitude, it’s clear you don’t want me there, why would I go asking for trouble," Charles stripped off his clothes again and stepped into the bathtub, ignoring Vivian’s protest, "Justin Huxley is no pushover, be careful not to be fooled by him either."
"No need for your nagging. I know what I’m doing," Vivian turned off the shower, grabbed a towel, wrapped it around herself, and looked down at Charles in the bathtub, "But you shouldn’t talk about him. You’re all the same, running in the same circles, none better than the other."
"I’m different from Justin Huxley. I genuinely earned my way up with my abilities, not like him, pretending to be a gentleman while being a beast underneath, willing to use any underhanded trick. Who can match him in that regard?"
Charles spoke with disdain for Justin Huxley.
"Seems like you have quite the opinion of him. Why not tell me in detail what Justin Huxley has done that you all can’t stand?"
